What I’ve Learned From Baseball

During April, I made the glamorous transformation into baseball mom! I love seeing my son (8) try something new. I love watching the bonding going on between father and son. And believe it or not, I’m loving the time spent outside.

What I’ve learned over the past few weeks is that I have more time than I recognize.

I’m good at work. But, I’m not always so good at rest.

I’ve seen stress-related health strain hit some of my peers. So, before it knocks on my door, I’m working on some adjustments.

  1. Sleep like I did as a child.

  2. Make a hard stop to my work day.

  3. Add some budget-friendly luxury to my life. (Do you know about the eucalyptus shower trick?)

I also adjusted my perspective on my business.

I build relationships with individuals and companies. I troubleshoot quickly, but enjoy taking my time to create. I make sure that my clients have access to me. My marketing approach works because my business is largely built on networking and referrals rather than cold sales.

A solid 1-1 web design service = low volume, high margin sales.

All this means that I don’t actually need to be as active as I’ve been pressuring myself to be- my outcome is the same either way.

This goes contrary to hustle culture. And that’s just fine with me. I’ve never been good at following the crowd.

If you’ve been looking for breathing room in your schedule or you’re already feeling burned out, take a few weeks to make adjustments and assess your business.

If you drop one aspect (ex: spend less time creating for social media or cut out a service offering that you don’t actually like) what changes for you?

-Do you lose income? Clients? Or is there no real change?

-Are you able to see what works and commit to consistent results in that area?

-How does your approach to work change when you work from a place of rest rather than trying to do all-the-things?

Try to change only one variable at a time. This is a scientific experiment after all! Then, move forward with clarity. Do what truly serves your clients and is the best use of your time and energy.

A business that runs you isn’t healthy or sustainable.
